Three days in the Oesling: Bourscheid Castle, Esch-sur-Sûre, a solar boat on the lake, Wiltz and Clervaux with The Family of Man.
In the north of the Grand Duchy, the Oesling, Luxembourg’s part of the Ardennes, offers deep valleys, endless forests and villages nestled below their castles. This three-day stay with a single hotel in the region strings together short stages: the ruins of Bourscheid on their spur, Esch-sur-Sûre in its river loop, then the Upper Sûre Lake, explored seated aboard a silent solar boat. Wiltz and its castle, then Clervaux and Edward Steichen’s famous exhibition The Family of Man complete this nature-and-culture trip. Days remain short, meals are reserved and the coach drops the group as close to the sites as possible.
Programme
Day 1: Bourscheid and Esch-sur-Sûre
- Morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice; our drivers drive for no more than 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break.
- Arrival in late morning at the Bourscheid Castle viewpoint.
- Guided tour of the ruins of Bourscheid Castle (on request).
- Reserved lunch at a restaurant in the Sûre valley (on request).
- Stroll through the village of Esch-sur-Sûre, below its castle ruins.
- Check-in at the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Upper Sûre Lake and Wiltz
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Visit to the Nature Park House and the old cloth mill in Esch-sur-Sûre (on request).
- Solar boat cruise on the Upper Sûre Lake (on request).
- Reserved lunch at a lakeside restaurant (on request).
- Drive to Wiltz and stroll in the castle gardens.
- Visit to the museums of Wiltz Castle (on request).
- Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3: Clervaux and return
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Clervaux in the Clerve valley.
- Visit to The Family of Man exhibition at Clervaux Castle (on request).
- Reserved lunch at a restaurant in Clervaux (on request).
- Stop at the Abbey of Saint Maurice, then departure in early afternoon.
- Return to your region in the evening.
