Versilia: Viareggio, Lucca, Pisa, Florence and the Carrara quarries (11 days)

Day 1: Departure and overnight stopover (central Switzerland)

• Morning departure from the place of your choice.
• Journey with regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
• Late-afternoon arrival at the stopover hotel (central Switzerland), dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Arrival in Versilia

• Breakfast, then the last part of the journey with regular breaks.
• Crossing of the Alps through the Gotthard tunnel, then journey south.
• Afternoon arrival, check-in at the hotel for 8 nights, dinner.

Day 3: Viareggio, pearl of Versilia

• Guided walk in Viareggio: seafront, villas and Liberty-style cafés (on request).
• Free time at the fish market and harbour.
• Free afternoon on the beach; dinner at the hotel.

Day 4: Lucca, city of a hundred churches

• Short drive to Lucca.
• Guided tour of the old town: Piazza dell'Anfiteatro, San Martino Cathedral and San Michele in Foro (on request).
• Walk on the tree-lined walls, on foot or by rickshaw (on request).
• Tuscan lunch in a trattoria (on request).
• Return to the coast in the late afternoon.

Day 5: Pisa and the Piazza dei Miracoli

• Short drive to Pisa.
• Guided tour of the Piazza dei Miracoli, a UNESCO World Heritage Site: cathedral, baptistery and Leaning Tower (on request).
• Free time in the centre and along the Arno.
• Return to the coast in the afternoon and free time.

Day 6: Free day in Versilia

• Free day (driver's rest day): beach, seafront promenade and market.
• Dinner at the hotel.

Day 7: Florence, cradle of the Renaissance

• Drive to Florence.
• Guided tour of the historic centre: cathedral and Brunelleschi's dome, Piazza della Signoria and Ponte Vecchio (on request).
• Lunch in a Florentine restaurant (on request).
• Free time, then return to the coast in the late afternoon.

Day 8: Carrara and Pietrasanta, the marble road

• Drive to the Carrara marble quarries in the Apuan Alps.
• Guided visit of a marble quarry (on request).
• Tasting of Colonnata lard, cured in marble basins (on request).
• In the afternoon, stroll in Pietrasanta, a small town of artists and sculptors, then return to the coast.

Day 9: Torre del Lago, in Puccini's footsteps

• Free morning by the sea.
• In the afternoon, short drive to Torre del Lago, on the shore of Lake Massaciuccoli.
• Visit of Giacomo Puccini's villa museum (on request).
• Last evening in Versilia.

Day 10: Leaving Versilia, overnight stopover (central Switzerland)

• Breakfast, then return journey with regular breaks.
• Late-afternoon arrival at the stopover hotel (central Switzerland), dinner and overnight stay.

Day 11: Return to Belgium

• Breakfast, then return journey with regular breaks.
• Evening return to your home area.
