Four days in the heart of Germany: Luther’s Wartburg, Erfurt’s Merchants’ Bridge and Goethe’s Weimar.
Thuringia, Germany’s green heart, packs a remarkable history into a radius of just a few dozen kilometres. Your group starts with the Wartburg, a UNESCO-listed castle where Luther translated the New Testament into German. Erfurt, a city of church towers and half-timbered houses, then welcomes you with its cathedral and its Merchants’ Bridge, still lined with small inhabited shops. Weimar, the city of Goethe and Schiller and the birthplace of the Bauhaus, is explored on foot in a calm, compact centre. A 3-star hotel with lift in Erfurt welcomes you for three nights on half board, with no change of hotel.
Programme
Day 1: Eisenach and the Wartburg
- Morning departure from the place of your choice.
- Journey with regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Lunch at a restaurant on the way (on request).
- Arrival in Eisenach in the early afternoon.
- Guided tour of Wartburg Castle (shuttle or short climb from the car park) (on request).
- Drive to Erfurt (about 45 minutes).
- Check-in at the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Erfurt, city of towers
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Guided tour of Erfurt: Cathedral Square, St Mary’s Cathedral and St Severus’ Church, Merchants’ Bridge (Krämerbrücke) (on request).
- Group lunch at a restaurant (on request).
- Free time to stroll through the old town and around the Fischmarkt square.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3: Weimar, Goethe’s city
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Weimar (about 30 minutes).
- Guided tour of Weimar: Theatre Square and the Goethe–Schiller statue, Market Square, the park on the Ilm (on request).
- Visit to Goethe’s house (on request).
- Group lunch at a restaurant (on request).
- Free time, then return to Erfurt.
- Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 4: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Morning departure.
- Lunch at a restaurant on the way (on request).
- Return journey with regular breaks, arriving in your region in the evening.

- Walking level: easy to moderate (cobblestones in the old towns; climb to the Wartburg made easier by a shuttle).
- Available from April to October; Wartburg shuttle and museum opening times to be checked according to the season.
