An 8-day tour for your group: Ljubljana, the Slovenian coast and Piran, then Trieste and Miramare Castle on the Adriatic.

This 8-day tour brings together two faces of the northern Adriatic, just a few kilometres apart. Your group first explores Ljubljana, a small, green and largely car-free capital, with its Triple Bridge, the colonnaded market designed by architect Jože Plečnik and the castle overlooking the old town. On Slovenia’s short coastline, Piran spreads its Venetian-style lanes around Tartini Square, facing the sea. Just across the border, Trieste offers the vast Piazza Unità d’Italia, open to the gulf, and the white Miramare Castle, built for Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg. Overnight stops in Bavaria on the way out and back make the journey comfortable for everyone.

Programme

Day 1: Journey to Bavaria

  • Morning departure from the place of your choice.
  • Journey with regular breaks: no more than 3 hours of driving, then a 30-minute break.
  • Arrival in the evening and overnight stop in Bavaria.

Day 2: The Alps and Ljubljana

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Drive via Salzburg and the Karawanks Tunnel into Slovenia.
  • Arrival in Ljubljana in the afternoon and check-in for 2 nights.
  • First stroll along the Ljubljanica river and its terraces.

Day 3: Ljubljana on foot (driver’s rest day)

  • A day without the coach: Prešeren Square, the Triple Bridge, the Dragon Bridge and Plečnik’s central market.
  • Guided tour of Ljubljana’s old town (on request).
  • Funicular ride up to Ljubljana Castle (on request).
  • Boat trip on the Ljubljanica (on request).
  • Free afternoon in the lanes of the old town.

Day 4: The Karst and the Slovenian coast

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Drive to the Slovenian Karst.
  • Visit to Postojna Cave by underground train (on request).
  • Visit to Predjama Castle, built into a cliff face (on request).
  • Check-in on the Slovenian coast, in or near Portorož, for 3 nights.

Day 5: Piran, a Venetian gem

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Discovery of Piran: Tartini Square, St George’s Church and the town walls overlooking the bay.
  • Guided tour of Piran (on request).
  • Free time around the harbour and the quays.
  • Fish dinner in a harbour restaurant (on request).

Day 6: Trieste and Miramare Castle

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Short drive to Trieste, just across the Italian border.
  • Discovery of Piazza Unità d’Italia, the Grand Canal and the Roman theatre.
  • Walk up San Giusto hill to its cathedral and castle.
  • Guided tour of Trieste (on request).
  • Visit to Miramare Castle and its seaside park (on request).
  • Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 7: Journey to Bavaria

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Departure from the Slovenian coast and drive through Austria.
  • Journey with regular breaks: no more than 3 hours of driving, then a 30-minute break.
  • Overnight stop in Bavaria.

Day 8: Return to Belgium

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Journey with regular breaks: no more than 3 hours of driving, then a 30-minute break.
  • Evening return to your region.

Good to know

  • A valid identity card and European Health Insurance Card for each participant; departure and return times adapted to your group’s pick-up point.
  • Currency: euro (Slovenia, Austria and Italy); bring good shoes for cobbled lanes and the climbs up to the castles.
  • Best from April to October; Postojna Cave stays at around 10 °C all year round, so bring a jacket.
