Five days on the Danube: Regensburg old town, boat to Weltenburg Abbey, the Walhalla and Passau, the city of three rivers.
Regensburg, whose medieval old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has kept its 12th-century Stone Bridge, its Gothic cathedral and its Italian-style patrician towers. Your group enjoys it on foot at a gentle pace, before tasting the little grilled sausages for which the city is famous. The Danube is the thread of the trip: a boat through the Danube Gorge to Weltenburg Abbey and its monastic brewery, a stop at the Walhalla temple, then Passau, at the confluence of three rivers, with its cathedral and giant organ. The journey from Belgium is long but broken by regular breaks, and the group stays four nights in the same 3-star hotel on half board. The old towns are cobbled, and access to the Walhalla involves some steps, which can be avoided by staying at the viewpoint.
