A 9-day stay on the Italian Riviera: Portofino and the Cinque Terre by boat, Genoa and its palaces, and seafront strolls.

On the Riviera di Levante, Rapallo has kept the elegance of the resorts of yesteryear, with its palm-lined promenade and its little castle standing in the sea. Your group stays six nights in a 3-star hotel with lift, on half board, after a stopover night in central Switzerland and the crossing of the Alps. Here the boat often replaces the coach: that is how you reach Portofino and its picture-postcard harbour, then the colourful villages of the Cinque Terre clinging to the cliffs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Genoa, a great historic port, reveals its Rolli palaces and lively lanes. Some village lanes are steep, but everyone goes at their own pace, and a free day lets you enjoy the seafront cafés.

Programme

Day 1: Departure and overnight stopover (central Switzerland)

  • Morning departure from the place of your choice.
  • Journey with regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
  • Late-afternoon arrival at the stopover hotel (central Switzerland), dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Arrival in Rapallo

  • Breakfast, then the last part of the journey with regular breaks.
  • Crossing of the Alps through the Gotthard tunnel, then drive to Liguria.
  • Afternoon arrival, check-in at the hotel for 6 nights, dinner.

Day 3: Rapallo and Santa Margherita Ligure

  • Guided walk in Rapallo: seafront, castle and old centre (on request).
  • In the afternoon, short drive to Santa Margherita Ligure, its villas and harbour.
  • Free time at a café terrace, then back to the hotel for dinner.

Day 4: Portofino and San Fruttuoso by boat

  • Walk to Rapallo harbour and scheduled boat to Portofino, depending on the season and the sea.
  • Free time in Portofino's small harbour and its colourful façades.
  • Continue by boat to the abbey of San Fruttuoso, nestled in a cove (on request).
  • Lunch of Ligurian specialities such as focaccia and pesto (on request).
  • Boat back to Rapallo in the late afternoon.

Day 5: Genoa the Superb

  • Drive to Genoa.
  • Guided tour of the historic centre and Via Garibaldi, lined with the Rolli palaces, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (on request).
  • Walk around the Porto Antico, the redeveloped old harbour.
  • Visit of the Genoa Aquarium (on request).
  • Return to Rapallo in the late afternoon.

Day 6: Free day in Rapallo

  • Free day (driver's rest day): seafront promenade, market and cafés.
  • Dinner at the hotel.

Day 7: The Cinque Terre

  • Day in the Cinque Terre by boat or train, depending on the season and the sea, with a local escort (on request).
  • Discovery of Vernazza and Monterosso, colourful villages below terraced vineyards.
  • Seafood lunch in Monterosso (on request).
  • Return to Rapallo in the late afternoon and last evening.

Day 8: Leaving Rapallo, overnight stopover (central Switzerland)

  • Breakfast, then return journey with regular breaks.
  • Late-afternoon arrival at the stopover hotel (central Switzerland), dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: Return to Belgium

  • Breakfast, then return journey with regular breaks.
  • Evening return to your home area.

Good to know

  • Valid identity card and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for each participant.
  • Departure and return times adapted to your group's pick-up point; stay offered from April to October, dates to be checked each year. From 20 participants, price on quotation.
  • Walking level: moderate (sloping lanes and some steps in the old towns); every visit can be shortened, and a meeting time at the coach is set each day.
  • Currency: euro in Italy, Swiss franc during the stopover nights in Switzerland. Bring comfortable clothes for the journey and sun cream.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
