Three days in the Meuse valley at Christmas: Namur market, the citadel cable car, Dinant and its couques, Maredsous Abbey.

Namur, the capital of Wallonia, celebrates Christmas where the Sambre meets the Meuse, with chalets in the historic centre, especially on the Place d’Armes, depending on the year’s programme. Your group takes its time: a first afternoon in the lanes around Saint Aubin’s Cathedral and Saint Loup’s Church, an evening at the market, then a day in the Meuse valley. In Dinant, the collegiate church, the house of Mister Sax and the famous couques are the town’s pride, before a stop at Maredsous Abbey for its cheese and beer. On the last morning, the cable car or the coach takes you up to Namur citadel for a magnificent view. Namur’s centre is cobbled in places and Dinant is squeezed between river and cliff, but the visits remain short and the coach is never far.

Day 1: Journey to Namur and Christmas market

  • Departure in the morning from the place of your choice.
  • Comfortable coach journey; our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
  • Coffee break on the way.
  • Arrival in Namur in the late morning.
  • Seated lunch in the centre (on request)
  • Guided tour of the historic centre: Saint Aubin’s Cathedral, Saint Loup’s Church and the belfry (on request)
  • Free time at the Christmas market in the centre.
  • Check-in at the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Dinant and Maredsous Abbey

  • Breakfast, then a drive along the Meuse to Dinant.
  • Discovery of the Collegiate Church of Our Lady and the house of Mister Sax.
  • Cable car ride up to Dinant citadel (on request)
  • Tasting of Dinant couques (on request)
  • Seated lunch in Dinant (on request)
  • Stop at Maredsous Abbey, with cheese and beer tasting (on request)
  • Return to the hotel in Namur, dinner and a free evening at the market.

Day 3: Namur citadel and return

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Cable car ride up to Namur citadel (on request)
  • Panorama over the confluence of the Sambre and the Meuse; the coach can also drive up to the citadel.

  • Return in the late afternoon or early evening to your region.

Good to know

  • A valid identity card is required; departure and return times are adapted to your pick-up point.
  • Walking level: easy to moderate (cobbles in the old towns, short climbs; cable cars and the coach avoid the citadel slopes).
  • Christmas markets run from late November to late December, to be checked each year; wheelchairs and reduced mobility: please let us know when booking.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
