Lier at Christmas: Market Square and belfry, the Zimmer Tower and its astronomical clock, a UNESCO beguinage and local tarts.

Lier, a small town on the river Nete, makes a gentle, little-known stop for a Christmas day out. Its Market Square, overlooked by the town hall and its UNESCO-listed belfry, hosts festive events and a small Christmas market in December, depending on the town’s programme. Your group discovers the Zimmer Tower and its Centenary Clock, an astronomical marvel, then the beguinage with its peaceful lanes. After a seated lunch, a tasting of Lierse vlaaikens, the town’s small spiced tarts, sweetens the afternoon. Distances are short; the beguinage is paved with large cobbles, which you can explore at your own pace or admire from the entrance.

Good to know

  • A valid identity card is required; departure and return times are adapted to your pick-up point.
  • Walking level: easy (short distances; uneven cobbles in the beguinage, where you can stop at the entrance).
  • Christmas markets run from late November to late December, to be checked each year; wheelchairs and reduced mobility: please let us know when booking.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
