A 7-day stay on the beach at Lignano, with the mosaics of Aquileia, the Grado lagoon, Trieste and Miramare Castle.
Lignano Sabbiadoro owes its name to its long, gently sloping golden-sand beach, ideal for easy swimming. The closest resort to Belgium on the Italian Adriatic, it can be reached with a single stopover night, and your group stays four nights in a 3-star hotel with lift, on half board. The excursions are short and varied: Aquileia and the great mosaic floor of its basilica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, then Grado, a small fishing town on its lagoon. Trieste, the former port of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, offers its historic cafés and the vast Piazza Unità d'Italia facing the sea, close to the white Miramare Castle. A free day leaves time to enjoy the beach and the pine wood.
Programme
Day 1: Departure and overnight stopover (southern Germany)
- Morning departure from the place of your choice.
- Journey with regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Late-afternoon arrival at the stopover hotel (southern Germany), dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Arrival in Lignano Sabbiadoro
- Breakfast, then the last part of the journey with regular breaks.
- Afternoon arrival, check-in at the hotel for 4 nights, dinner.
Day 3: Aquileia and Grado
- Short drive to Aquileia.
- Guided tour of the basilica and its early Christian mosaic floor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (on request).
- Continue to Grado: stroll through the old centre and along the lagoon.
- Boat trip to the Barbana sanctuary, on an island in the lagoon (on request).
- Return to Lignano in the late afternoon.
Day 4: Free day in Lignano
- Free day (driver's rest day): beach, walk in the pine wood and the resort's terraces.
- Dinner at the hotel.
Day 5: Trieste and Miramare Castle
- Drive to Trieste and stop at Miramare Castle, built by the sea for Archduke Maximilian.
- Visit of the castle apartments (on request) or free walk in its park.
- Guided tour of Trieste: Piazza Unità d'Italia, Grand Canal and San Giusto hill (on request).
- Break in one of the city's historic cafés, then return to Lignano.
Day 6: Leaving Lignano Sabbiadoro, overnight stopover (southern Germany)
- Breakfast, then return journey with regular breaks.
- Late-afternoon arrival at the stopover hotel (southern Germany), dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast, then return journey with regular breaks.
- Evening return to your home area.

- Valid identity card and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for each participant.
- Departure and return times adapted to your group's pick-up point; stay offered from May to late September, dates to be checked each year. From 20 participants, price on quotation.
- Walking level: easy (short walks, some cobbled lanes); a meeting time at the coach is set each day with the driver.
- Currency: euro. Bring comfortable clothes for the journey, a hat and sun cream.
