Three days in Heidelberg: the castle by funicular, the old town on the Neckar and the imperial cathedral of Speyer.
Heidelberg, with its pink sandstone castle overlooking the Neckar, is one of Germany’s most romantic cities. Your group takes the funicular up to discover the castle ruins, its panoramic terrace and its enormous wine barrel, then comes back down to stroll through the old town and across the Old Bridge. A boat trip on the Neckar can round off the day at a very relaxed pace. On the way home, a stop in Speyer allows a visit to the Romanesque imperial cathedral, a UNESCO site where several emperors are buried. A 3-star hotel with lift welcomes you for two nights on half board, with no change of hotel.
Programme
Day 1: Journey to Heidelberg
- Morning departure from the place of your choice.
- Journey with regular breaks: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Arrival in Heidelberg in the early afternoon.
- First walk through the old town: the main street (Hauptstraße), Market Square and the Church of the Holy Spirit.
- Check-in at the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: The castle and the Neckar
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Funicular ride up to the castle.
- Guided tour of the castle: courtyard, panoramic terrace and the Great Barrel (on request).
- Group lunch at a restaurant (on request).
- Free time and walk across the Old Bridge (Alte Brücke).
- Boat trip on the Neckar (on request).
- Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3: Speyer and return
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Speyer (about 30 minutes).
- Guided tour of Speyer Imperial Cathedral and the old town (on request).
- Group lunch at a restaurant (on request).
- Departure in the early afternoon.
- Return journey with regular breaks, arriving in your region in the evening.
