Four days in Lower Saxony: Herrenhausen’s baroque gardens, Hildesheim’s UNESCO churches and Celle’s half-timbered houses.
Hanover, a green city on the shores of Lake Maschsee, boasts in the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen one of the finest baroque gardens in Europe. Its New Town Hall offers a rare curiosity: an inclined lift that follows the curve of the dome up to the viewpoint. In Hildesheim, the cathedral and St Michael’s Church are listed by UNESCO, and the thousand-year-old rose bush still climbs against the cathedral apse. On the last day, Celle charms with several hundred half-timbered houses and the dukes’ palace before the journey home. Visits are on foot on flat ground, with cobblestones in the old towns, and the group stays three nights in the same 3-star hotel on half board.
Programme
Day 1: Arrival in Hanover
- Morning departure from the place of your choice.
- Journey with a coffee break and a lunch stop: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Arrival in Hanover in the afternoon.
- Ride in the inclined lift up to the dome of the New Town Hall for a panorama over the city (on request).
- Stroll along Lake Maschsee.
- Check-in at the hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 2: The Herrenhausen Gardens
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Guided tour of the Great Garden of Herrenhausen, with its parterres, fountains and Niki de Saint Phalle grotto (on request).
- Seated lunch in Hanover (on request).
- Guided tour of the old town: Market Church, Old Town Hall and the banks of the Leine (on request).
- Free time, then dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 3: Hildesheim
- Breakfast at the hotel, then drive to Hildesheim (about 45 minutes).
- Guided tour of the cathedral, the thousand-year-old rose bush and St Michael’s Church (on request).
- Free time on the Market Square with its rebuilt façades, including the Butchers’ Guild Hall.
- Return to Hanover, dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 4: Celle and return
- Breakfast at the hotel, then drive to Celle.
- Guided tour of Celle’s ducal palace (on request).
- Free stroll through the old town with its half-timbered houses and free lunch.
- Departure in the early afternoon.
- Return in the evening to your region.

- Walking level: easy (flat ground, cobblestones in the old towns of Hildesheim and Celle; the Herrenhausen gardens are extensive).
- Best from April to October for the gardens in bloom and the Herrenhausen fountains; times to be checked each year.
