Two days in Düsseldorf: old town, Rhine promenade, Königsallee, Benrath Palace and Kaiserswerth, at a gentle pace.
Just over two hours’ drive from Belgium, Düsseldorf is ideal for a first short break without fatigue. Your group strolls through the old town and along the Rhine promenade, then discovers the elegant Königsallee and its shop windows beside the canal. The next day, Benrath Palace, a graceful pink summer residence from the 18th century, and the village of Kaiserswerth, with the ruins of Frederick Barbarossa’s palace, make a lovely contrast. Walking distances are short, on flat and partly cobbled streets, and everyone keeps free time for a coffee break or a glass of Altbier. One night in a 3-star hotel on half board completes this simple and friendly trip.
Programme
Day 1: Old town and the banks of the Rhine
- Morning departure from the place of your choice.
- Journey with a coffee break and a lunch stop: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
- Arrival in Düsseldorf in the late morning and seated lunch in the old town (on request).
- Guided walking tour of the old town, from the Market Square to the Rhine promenade (on request).
- Cruise of about one hour on the Rhine (on request).
- Free time on the Königsallee, the city’s smart boulevard along its tree-lined canal.
- Check-in at the hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Benrath Palace and Kaiserswerth
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Guided tour of Benrath Palace, the baroque summer residence of the Electors, followed by a walk in its park (on request).
- Free lunch, then drive to Kaiserswerth, a former boatmen’s village on the Rhine.
- Gentle walk to the ruins of Frederick Barbarossa’s imperial palace.
- Departure in mid-afternoon.
- Return in the evening to your region.
