A day of remembrance in Luxembourg: Diekirch military museum, General Patton’s memory in Ettelbruck and the American cemetery at Hamm.
In the winter of 1944-1945, northern Luxembourg was one of the battlefields of the Battle of the Bulge, and Diekirch and Ettelbruck keep its memory alive. In Diekirch, the National Museum of Military History tells the story of the fighting through large dioramas, vehicles and objects that belonged to soldiers and civilians. In Ettelbruck, the General Patton Memorial Museum and the general’s statue recall the role of the US Third Army in liberating the country. The day ends at the Luxembourg American Cemetery in Hamm, near Luxembourg City, where General Patton rests among thousands of soldiers. An ideal outing for veterans’ and remembrance associations, clubs and history enthusiasts.
