Two days in the Ruhr: UNESCO-listed Zollverein colliery, Duisburg inland port and the blast furnace of Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord.

The Ruhr, once Germany’s industrial heartland, has turned its mines and factories into spectacular venues, perfect for an original company outing. In Essen, the Zollverein colliery complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, tells the story of coal and the men who mined it. The next day, your teams board a boat for a tour of the port of Duisburg, one of Europe’s largest inland ports, then climb a former blast furnace in Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord. Climbing in the old ore bunkers, a team dinner and a seminar room can complete this programme, particularly appealing to technical and industrial companies. Coach, hotel, visits and meals are organised on a turnkey basis, to suit your budget and group size.

Day 1: Essen and Zollverein colliery

  • Departure by touring coach from outside your company, at the agreed time.
  • Drive to Essen: our drivers drive for 3 hours at most, then take a 30-minute break.
  • Guided tour of the Zollverein colliery complex, following the path of the coal (on request).
  • Visit to the Ruhr Museum, housed in the former coal washery (on request).
  • Check-in at a 3-star hotel in or near Essen.
  • Meeting, seminar or presentation in a hotel meeting room (on request).
  • Team dinner at a restaurant (on request).

Day 2: Duisburg, port and blast furnace

  • Breakfast at the hotel and check-out.
  • Boat tour of the port of Duisburg (on request).
  • Team lunch (on request).
  • Visit to Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord and climb up a former blast furnace
  • Team climbing taster in the former ore bunkers, with an instructor (on request).
  • Return journey, with the same safety breaks, arriving back at your company in the evening.

Good to know

  • A valid identity card is required for each participant; departure and return times are adapted to your company’s working hours.

Cancellation and refund protection

Optional, to be taken when booking: you can cancel without giving a reason and get the base price of the trip back, provided your request reaches us at least 48 hours before departure for a day trip, 7 days before if admission tickets are included, 14 days before for a trip with overnight stays. Price: 7 % of the trip up to €1,000, 5 % from €1,001 to €2,500, 3.5 % above.
