An 8-day tour of Moravia: Brno, the castles of Lednice and Valtice among the vines, the gardens of Kroměříž and beautiful Olomouc.
Moravia, in the east of the Czech Republic, is a land of vineyards, castles and baroque towns still little known to Belgian travellers. Your group stays in Brno, the country’s second city, between Špilberk fortress, Petrov cathedral and Villa Tugendhat, a masterpiece by Mies van der Rohe listed by UNESCO. To the south, the Lednice-Valtice estate, former domain of the Princes of Liechtenstein, brings together castles, parks and wine cellars in a protected landscape. Kroměříž reveals the Archbishop’s Palace and its Flower Garden, and Olomouc its Holy Trinity Column, also a World Heritage site. A tour for food and culture lovers, at the pace of wine cellars and baroque squares.
Programme
Day 1: Journey to Bavaria
- Morning departure from the place of your choice.
- Journey with regular breaks: no more than 3 hours of driving, then a 30-minute break.
- Arrival in the evening and overnight stop in Bavaria.
Day 2: On to Brno
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive across Bohemia into Moravia.
- Journey with regular breaks: no more than 3 hours of driving, then a 30-minute break.
- Arrival in Brno and check-in for 4 nights.
Day 3: Brno
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Discovery of Brno: Freedom Square and its clock, the Cabbage Market and the Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul.
- Walk up to Špilberk fortress and its view over the city.
- Guided tour of Villa Tugendhat (on request).
- Visit to the ossuary of St James’s Church (on request).
- Free late afternoon.
Day 4: Lednice and Valtice
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to the Lednice-Valtice estate, among the vineyards of South Moravia.
- Visit to Lednice Castle (on request).
- Walk through the castle park to the minaret.
- Tasting of Moravian wines in the cellars of Valtice Castle (on request).
- Return to Brno in the late afternoon.
Day 5: Brno on foot (driver’s rest day)
- A day without the coach in Brno.
- Free time in the historic centre, its cafés and shopping arcades.
- Guided tour of the underground passages beneath the Cabbage Market (on request).
- Dinner of Moravian specialities (on request).
Day 6: Kroměříž and Olomouc
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Kroměříž and discovery of the Archbishop’s Palace.
- Visit to the state rooms of the Archbishop’s Palace in Kroměříž (on request).
- Stroll through the Flower Garden, a UNESCO site.
- Drive to Olomouc and check-in for 1 night.
Day 7: Olomouc and on to Bavaria
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Discovery of Olomouc: the Holy Trinity Column, the astronomical clock and St Wenceslas Cathedral.
- Tasting of Olomouc cheese (tvarůžky) (on request).
- Drive to Bavaria and overnight stop.
Day 8: Return to Belgium
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Journey with regular breaks: no more than 3 hours of driving, then a 30-minute break.
- Evening return to your region.
