Two Christmas days on the German Moselle: half-timbered Bernkastel-Kues, then the cellar market of Traben-Trarbach.
In winter the German Moselle looks like a postcard, with its wine villages and terraced slopes. In Bernkastel-Kues, the Christmas market sets up on the market square, lined with half-timbered houses, below the ruins of Landshut Castle. In Traben-Trarbach, part of the Christmas market is held in old vaulted wine cellars beneath the town’s streets, sheltered from the cold. Your group spends one night in the valley on half board and can enjoy a Moselle wine tasting. Journeys are short and the pace stays gentle from start to finish.
Programme
Day 1: Bernkastel-Kues
- Morning departure from the pick-up point of your choice.
- Coach journey with breaks: our drivers drive for no more than 3 hours, then take a 30-minute break.
- Arrival in Bernkastel-Kues around midday.
- Lunch in a restaurant in the valley (on request).
- Free time at the Christmas market on the market square, surrounded by half-timbered houses.
- Moselle wine tasting at a winegrower’s (on request).
- Check-in at a hotel in the Moselle valley, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Traben-Trarbach and return
- Breakfast, then a short drive along the Moselle to Traben-Trarbach.
- Discovery of the Christmas market, partly set up in old vaulted wine cellars (open mainly at weekends: opening days to be checked each year).
- Guided tour of the town and its Art Nouveau façades (on request).
- Lunch in a restaurant in Traben-Trarbach (on request).
- Departure in early afternoon, with regular breaks.
- Return to your region in the evening.

- Christmas markets run from late November to late December: dates to be checked each year; bring warm clothing.
