A 4-day city trip to Hoorn and the IJsselmeer for your group: the port of Hoorn, the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen, the steam tram to Medemblik, Edam and the Alkmaar cheese market.
A former inland sea closed off in 1932 by the great Afsluitdijk dyke, the IJsselmeer is lined with ports that made the wealth of the Golden Age. Your group discovers Hoorn, home of navigators, and Enkhuizen, where the Zuiderzee Museum brings the fishing villages of yesteryear back to life. A steam tram links Hoorn to Medemblik through the polders, while Edam and Alkmaar keep the cheese tradition alive.
Programme
Day 1 : Journey to Hoorn
- Morning departure from the location of your choice.
- Drive to North Holland, with breaks along the way.
- Arrival in Hoorn in the afternoon and a walk from the Roode Steen square to the harbour tower.
- Check-in at the hotel.
- Dinner in the hotel restaurant (on request).
Day 2 : Steam tram and Enkhuizen
- Steam tram ride from Hoorn to Medemblik through the polders (on request).
- Boat crossing from Medemblik to Enkhuizen on the IJsselmeer (on request).
- Visit to the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen (on request).
- Return to the hotel by coach.
- Group dinner in a restaurant in Hoorn harbour (on request).
Day 3 : Edam
- Drive to Edam, half an hour away.
- Stroll along the canals and past the cheese weigh house.
- Visit to a cheese dairy with tasting (on request).
- In the afternoon, free time in Hoorn or visit to the Westfries Museum (on request).
- Return to the hotel at the end of the day.
Day 4 : Alkmaar
- Drive to Alkmaar, half an hour away.
- Traditional cheese market on the Waagplein, in season.
- Visit to the Cheese Museum, in the weigh house (on request).
- Boat trip on the canals of Alkmaar (on request).
- Return journey in the early afternoon.
- Arrival back in your region in the evening.
