A 4-day city trip to Groningen and the Wadden for your group: the lively centre of Groningen, a crossing to the island of Schiermonnikoog, the Wadden Sea and the seals of Pieterburen.
A university city in the north of the Netherlands, Groningen is laid out around the Grote Markt, the Martinitoren and a ring of canals lined with houseboats. An hour's drive away, the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers landscapes of mudflats, dunes and sandbanks where seals rest. Your group crosses to Schiermonnikoog, an almost car-free island and national park, then discovers the seal rehabilitation centre in Pieterburen.
Programme
Day 1 : Journey to Groningen
- Morning departure from the location of your choice.
- Drive to the north of the Netherlands, with regular breaks along the way.
- Arrival in Groningen in the afternoon and a first look at the Grote Markt and the Vismarkt.
- Check-in at the hotel.
- Dinner in the hotel restaurant (on request).
Day 2 : Groningen
- Guided walking tour of the centre: the Martinitoren, the Aa-kerk and the Prinsenhof garden (on request).
- Boat trip on the canals encircling the centre (on request).
- Visit to the Groninger Museum (on request).
- Group dinner in a restaurant in the centre (on request).
Day 3 : The island of Schiermonnikoog
- Drive to the port of Lauwersoog, less than an hour away.
- Ferry crossing to Schiermonnikoog, without the coach.
- Tour of the island by local bus or tourist train with a guide: village, dunes and a vast beach (on request).
- Free time in the village or a ride on rental bikes (on request).
- Return crossing to Lauwersoog in the late afternoon and return to the hotel.
Day 4 : The seals of Pieterburen
- Drive to Pieterburen, on the edge of the Wadden Sea.
- Visit to the seal rehabilitation centre in Pieterburen (on request).
- Guided mudflat walk at low tide, in season (on request).
- Return journey in the early afternoon.
- Arrival back in your region in the evening.

Good to know
- Times adapted to your group's pick-up point; the drive to Groningen is long, so regular breaks are planned.
- The coach does not go onto Schiermonnikoog, where motor vehicles are reserved for residents: it waits for the group at the port of Lauwersoog.
- Crossings and mudflat walking depend on the tides and the weather: bring a windproof jacket, warm clothes and shoes that don't mind getting wet.
