2-day city trip to Deventer and Zutphen for your group: the Bergkwartier, gingerbread, a chained library and the IJssel.
On the banks of the IJssel, Deventer and Zutphen prospered in the Middle Ages thanks to the Hanseatic League and have kept their churches, towers and merchants’ houses. In Deventer, your group discovers the Brink, the Lebuïnuskerk and the lanes of the Bergkwartier, not forgetting the famous Deventer koek, a local gingerbread. In Zutphen, the Librije, a 16th-century library whose books are still chained to their lecterns, is a rarity in Europe.
Programme
Day 1: Deventer and its Bergkwartier
- Morning departure from the location of your choice.
- Drive to Overijssel, arriving in Deventer around midday.
- Guided walking tour: Brink, Waag, Lebuïnuskerk and Bergkwartier (on request).
- Tasting of Deventer koek, the town’s gingerbread (on request).
- Free time along the IJssel.
- Check-in at the hotel.
- Dinner at the hotel restaurant (on request).
Day 2: Zutphen and the Librije
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Drive to Zutphen, about twenty minutes away.
- Visit to the Librije, the chained library of St Walburga’s Church (on request).
- Walk along the ramparts: the Drogenapstoren and the Berkel water gate.
- Group lunch in the centre of Zutphen (on request).
- Return journey in early afternoon.
- Arrival back in your area in the evening.
