2-day city trip to Fontainebleau for your group: the royal château, the village of Barbizon and Vaux-le-Vicomte.
The Château de Fontainebleau, home to French sovereigns from Francis I to Napoleon III, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with its park. Close by, the village of Barbizon welcomed the landscape painters who came to work in the forest, among its rocks and tall trees. The next day, Vaux-le-Vicomte showcases Nicolas Fouquet’s château and the gardens by Le Nôtre that inspired Versailles. A trip combining art, history and nature, less than 400 km from Belgium.
Programme
Day 1: Château de Fontainebleau and Barbizon
- Morning departure from the location of your choice.
- Drive to Fontainebleau, arriving around midday.
- Guided tour of the Château de Fontainebleau (on request).
- Stroll through the park and the English garden.
- Stop in Barbizon, the painters’ village on the edge of the forest.
- Check-in at the hotel.
- Dinner at the hotel restaurant (on request).
Day 2: Vaux-le-Vicomte
- Breakfast at the hotel.
- Visit to the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte and its formal French gardens (on request).
- Lunch at a restaurant (on request).
- Return journey in early afternoon.
- Arrival back in your area in the evening.
