A 2-day trip for your group: the Christmas markets in Heidelberg's old town, below its castle, followed by the Speyer market at the foot of the imperial cathedral.
During Advent, Heidelberg spreads its Christmas market over several squares in the old town, from University Square to the Marktplatz and the Kornmarkt, which offers a superb view of the illuminated castle. Your group can ride the funicular up to the castle, cross the Old Bridge over the Neckar and, if they wish, go ice skating on the Karlsplatz. The next day, Speyer reveals its Romanesque cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its Christmas market set up along the Maximilianstraße, between the cathedral and the Altpörtel. Mulled wine, gingerbread and roasted almonds accompany both evenings under the illuminations.
Programme
Day 1 : Heidelberg, castle and old town
- Early morning departure from the location of your choice.
- Drive to Heidelberg, with regular stops.
- Arrival in Heidelberg in the early afternoon.
- Funicular ride up to the castle and visit to the courtyard and the Great Tun (on request).
- Guided tour of the old town (on request): the Hauptstraße, the Church of the Holy Spirit and the Old Bridge.
- Free time at the Christmas markets in the old town.
- Check-in at the hotel.
- Group dinner in a student tavern in the old town (on request).
- Free evening at the illuminated markets.
Day 2 : Speyer and its imperial cathedral
- Breakfast at the hotel and drive to Speyer (about 30 minutes).
- Guided tour of the cathedral and the historic centre (on request).
- Group lunch (on request) or free lunch.
- Free time at the Christmas market on the Maximilianstraße.
- Return journey in the early afternoon, with regular stops.
- Arrival back in your region in the evening.

Good to know
- Departure and return times are adapted to your group's pick-up point; the journey takes about 4 hours 30 minutes by road from Liège.
- The opening dates of the markets vary from year to year and should be checked; weekends are very busy, so we recommend a weekday trip.
- A valid identity card is required; bring warm clothing and comfortable shoes, and keep to the meeting point and time for the return to the coach.
