Day trip to the Aisne for your group: the Familistère de Guise, Godin’s workers’ utopia, then the medieval town of Laon and its cathedral.
The Familistère de Guise is a unique place: in the 19th century, the industrialist Jean-Baptiste André Godin, maker of the famous cast-iron stoves, built a “social palace” for his workers, with housing, schools, a theatre and a swimming pool. In the afternoon, it is on to Laon, perched on its hill above the Picardy plain. Its Notre-Dame Cathedral, one of the first great Gothic buildings in France, is famous for the carved oxen on its towers. An original day, between social history and medieval heritage.
Programme
- Morning departure from the place of your choice.
- Arrival in Guise at around 10.00 am.
- Visit to the Familistère: the social palace, Godin’s apartment and the museum (guided tour on request).
- Reserved group lunch (on request).
- Drive to Laon (about 1 hour).
- Visit to Notre-Dame Cathedral and stroll through the medieval town (guided tour on request).
- Departure from Laon at around 5.00 pm and return to your area in the evening.
