Day trip by coach from Belgium: the windmills of Zaanse Schans, the harbour of Volendam and the village of Marken.
A day in picture-postcard Holland. At Zaanse Schans, tall wooden windmills turn along the river, among little green houses, the cheese farm where you taste gouda and the workshop where clogs are still made. Then on to Volendam, an old fishing port with colourful houses: its lively dyke, terraces, herring and smoked eel, and photo studios where you pose in traditional costume. Finally, a boat crossing takes you to Marken, a former fishermen's island with green and black wooden houses, quiet and authentic.

About 30 minutes by boat across the lake, from Volendam to the village of Marken, where the coach waits for the return trip. Travellers who do not take the boat reach Marken by coach.
